Fighting Terrorism is what the Prophet Muhammad did and is the Duty of All Muslims
2017-10-02 22:27:53Terrorism was rampant when the first official Muslims appeared when the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)began his prophethood and received divine relevation. Even though our Prophet is gone, we still have the most important gift from him, the Holy Qur'an which remains intact and universal to all Muslims since it was revealed.
John Esposito sees Muhammad as a reformer who condemned practices of the pagan Arabs such as female infanticide, exploitation of the poor, usury, murder, false contracts, fornication, adultery, and theft.[12] He states that Muhammad's "insistence that each person was personally accountable not to tribal customary law but to an overriding divine law shook the very foundations of Arabian society... Muhammad proclaimed a sweeping program of religious and social reform that affected religious belief and practices, business contracts and practices, male-female and family relations".
.........
Islam reduced the effect of blood feuds, which was common among Arabs, by encouraging compensation in money rather than blood. In case the aggrieved party insisted on blood, unlike the pre-Islamic Arab tradition in which any male relative could be slain, only the culprit himself could be executed.[25][47]

The Prophet Muhammad's actions and historical evidence show us that his teachings and actions, thus Islam obligate us to fight terrorism, injustice and oppression regardless of which people or group it may involve.
As previously mentioned, in Islam Muslims are obligated to speak the truth and do justice even if it is a community or family member responsible for the oppression or injustice.

4:135 (Y. Ali) O ye who believe! stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even as against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, and whether it be (against) rich or poor: for Allah can best protect both. Follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest ye swerve, and if ye distort (justice) or decline to do justice, verily Allah is well- acquainted with all that ye do.
The ayyat above keeps all observing Muslims in check and on the straight path by holding everyone to the same high standard and not making any exceptions.
Going back to the time of the Prophet we have to look at the situation and what he achieved. Before the Prophet Muhammad appeared the Middle East was mired in war, bloodshed and essentially terrorism. The situation was not good, there was constant war, violence and the mistreatment of women, to the point where even female babies were sometimes buried alive.
With the advent of the Prophet and during his lifetime he completely changed and transformed the Arabian Peninsula to a peaceful and harmonious society. There were many social factors but war and violence was the first thing that needed to cease in order to create the conditions for a peaceful, properous and harmonious society. With war that is something which is impossible for anyone to live a normal and stable life. The wars occurring on the Arabian Peninsula before the Prophet's transformation could certainly be classified as terrorism in terms of what the pagans (Quarish) were doing.
The wars occurring during the time of the Prophet were to protect civilians of all ethnic and religious groups from Pagan attacks and atrocities that were occurring.
So based on the actions and accomplishments of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), combined with the teachings of the Qur'an it is very clear that Islam's very basis and history proves that fighting terrorism, oppression and injustice is most certainly a duty of observant Muslims.
